Early Connections Partnering for Change 2012

In January of 2012 Early Connections Partnering for Change 2012 will begin with an orientation to the project. Requirements for participants and application guidelines are included in this Request for Qualification (RFQ).

Applications for Early Connections Partnering for Change 2012 must be submitted by mail or hand delivered and received by 5:00PM, Friday, January 6th, 2012.  Faxed or electronic copies will not be accepted.    Please mail applications to: Ann S. School Readiness 2010 Reports Now Available

Our most recent School Readiness evaluation (2010) of Alameda County children showed many promising results:

  1. Children who had formal preschool experience are the most ready for school
  2. Children who did not have formal preschool experience but participated in short-term First 5 Summer Pre-K programs show readiness skills comparable to those who had formal preschool experience
  3. Children who appear healthy and well also perform well in Kindergarten
  4. Intensive home-visiting supports for the county’s most vulnerable children boost their readiness for school, and
  5. Leveraging opportunities to support parents in receiving information about child’s readiness and to support positive parenting attitudes can have positive effects on children’s readiness.

Summer Pre-K Directory Released

First 5 Alameda County funds summer programs for children without preschool experience who will be entering Kindergarten in the fall of 2011. These programs are held at 11 partnering school districts.

Perinatal Home Visiting Programs in Alameda County Evaluation Report Released

A study of services, staffing, participants and outcomes of 10 First 5 Alameda County and Alameda County Public Health Department perinatal home visiting programs in Alameda County. This report concludes with five recommendations for moving towards a coordinated system of home visiting services countywide. The study was funded by Alameda County Public Health Department and conducted by Applied Survey Research.

2011 EPSDT Referral Guide Released

The 2011 EPSDT (Early Periodic Screening, Diagnosis, and Treatment) Referral Guide is a comprehensive listing of Alameda County mental health agencies serving 0-5 children who are covered by Full-Scope Medi-cal. EPSDT is a Medi-Cal entitlement for children 0-21 years old designed to provide mental health services that can correct or ameliorate mental health problems. Please contact the agencies listed in the guide for information about current openings and other services.
